How a round plays out

Once you understand the basic flow of Andar Bahar, the game becomes much more enjoyable.

poko Andar Bahar cards being dealt on the table

Andar Bahar is a card-based game played with a standard 52-card deck. The dealer begins by placing one card face-up from the middle of the deck — this is the "Joker card" or "Game card". Players place their bets based on the value of this card.

The table has two sides: Andar (inside) and Bahar (outside). Players must guess whether the next card matching the Game card's value will land on the Andar pile or the Bahar pile. The dealer places cards alternately on each pile — whoever bet on the pile where the matching card lands wins.

The length of a round depends on how quickly the matching card appears. Sometimes it ends after just two or three cards; sometimes it takes longer — this uncertainty is what keeps the game lively.

Card values and how payouts work

There is no hand ranking in Andar Bahar — a matching card value is all that matters.

poko card values and payout board

Andar Bahar has no sequences or hand rankings like poker or Teen Patti. Only the card's value counts: A, 2, 3 … 10, J, Q, K. Whichever pile first receives a card with the same value as the Game card is the winner.

Payouts generally work as follows: a bet on Bahar usually pays 1:1, while a bet on Andar may pay slightly less — because statistically Andar receives the first card, giving it a marginally higher chance of matching. Side bets have their own payout structure depending on the variant.

The exact rules are shown on the table — it is good practice to read them before sitting down at poko's Playtech Live tables.

Against the dealer or against other players?

Knowing how Andar Bahar is structured makes it easier to plan your betting.

Against the dealer (house-banked)

The most common form of Andar Bahar is house-banked. Here the dealer represents the platform — they deal the cards, follow the rules and pay out winners. Players are not competing against each other; everyone is simply trying to pick the correct side.

Multiplayer tables

In a live casino, many players can sit at the same table at once. Everyone sees the same Game card and places their own bet on Andar or Bahar independently. You can see other players' bets, but their choices do not affect your outcome — each bet is settled separately.

This straightforward structure is convenient for newcomers — the dealer explains each step and the entire round can be followed live on screen. You can visit the live section of poko Casino and choose a table at any time.

Popular Andar Bahar variants

Several variants have been built on the core rules, each offering a different experience.

Classic Andar Bahar

This is the most basic form — one Game card, two piles and straightforward betting options. It is the best starting point for new players. Table limits are lower, so you can practise with small bets.

poko Andar Bahar side bet options

Side bet variant

This variant adds extra side bets alongside the main bet — such as which card number the match will happen on, or what colour the Game card will be. Side bets can pay more, but the risk is also higher. Experienced players tend to prefer this option.

Multi-table Andar Bahar

The option to bet at multiple tables at the same time. Experienced players can follow two or three tables simultaneously.

Turbo Andar Bahar

Each round finishes faster than usual. Less time to bet and cards are dealt at a quicker pace — suited to players who prefer a fast game.

VIP Andar Bahar

Separate VIP tables are available for higher-limit betting. Along with larger stakes, these tables offer a distinct atmosphere and experienced dealers.

Useful tips for beginners

Even without a strategy, building a few good habits can improve your experience at the table.

1

Start with small bets. Play the first few rounds at the minimum bet just to get a feel for things. Once you are familiar with the pace of the game and how cards are dealt, you can increase your stakes.

2

Set a budget before you start. Decide how much you are willing to spend before the session begins. When you reach that limit, stop — this is the core rule of responsible play.

3

Do not rush into side bets. Side bet payouts can look appealing, but they carry more risk than the main bet. Get comfortable with the main bet first.

4

Do not rely too much on previous results. Each round of Andar Bahar is independent — just because Andar has won the last few rounds does not mean it will win the next one.

5

Read the table rules. The payout structure, side bet conditions, and minimum and maximum bet information are all shown on the table. Take a quick look before sitting down.

Quick reference

  • Each round is simply Andar or Bahar — one choice only
  • Suit or colour does not matter for a match — only the value needs to match
  • The live dealer narrates every step as it happens
  • The next round starts as soon as the previous one ends — you can take a break at any time

Table etiquette and session management

Playing in an orderly way at a live table improves the experience for you and everyone else.

Place your bets on time

Confirm your bet before the timer runs out. Rushing at the last moment increases the chance of making a mistake.

Be polite in chat

Use respectful language with the dealer and other players in the live chat. Do not try to distract or annoy the dealer.

Track your session

Keep track of how long you have played and how much you have won or lost. This helps you set a budget for your next session.

Take breaks

Playing for a long stretch without stopping reduces concentration. Taking a short break once an hour is a good habit.

Do not make decisions based on emotion

If you lose several rounds in a row, do not place a large bet out of frustration. Take a moment to think before your next move.

Switching tables is normal

If you are not comfortable at one table, you can move to another. There is nothing wrong with doing so.

Frequently asked questions about Andar Bahar

Andar Bahar is fundamentally a probability-based game — each round is independent and there is no way to predict with certainty where the matching card will land. That said, habits like sticking to a budget, keeping side bets in check, and understanding the table's payout structure can make sessions more enjoyable over the long run.

Close, but not exactly equal. Because the first card goes to the Andar pile, statistics suggest Andar has a slightly higher chance of matching. For this reason, many tables pay out a little less on an Andar win — check the table rules to confirm.

In theory a round can end after just one card is dealt, or it can go nearly all the way through the deck. In practice most rounds finish fairly quickly, since each rank has four cards in a deck that contains 13 different ranks in total.

The classic variant is ideal for beginners. There are only two choices — Andar or Bahar. The side bet variant requires some experience to understand the extra betting options and work out the payouts. It makes sense to play a few classic rounds before moving on to side bets.
